French Toasties


  • 5 eggs
  • 1/4 C sugar
  • 3/4 C half and half
  • 3/4 C milk
  • 1/8 t vanilla
  • 3 C 3/4″ cubes brioche or challah or Hawaiian bread
  • 2 T melted butter, cooled
  • Cinnamon or confectioners sugar

In a bowl, whisk together the first five ingredients. Fold in bread cubes and butter. Let set for half an hour.

Butter the insides of four Little Bowls and fill with your mixture. Spoon a dollop of your favorite jam or marmalade in the center.

Place on a rimmed cookie sheet with one quarter inch of water. Bake at 300° for 35 minutes.

Dust with cinnamon, confectioners sugar or whatever! Serve with fresh fruit, or a slice or two of really good bacon.
